Peter Porter At the end of the Apostle John's first letter he gives a warning he says little children guard yourselves from idols and that's the end of his letter. Why does he end his letter in that manner. In this article we going to look at the reason he said so. Lets look at 1Thess 1:9-10 You turn to God from idols to serve a living and True God. And to wait for His Messiah from heaven whom He raised from the dead, Yahshua who delivers us from the coming wrath. Notice who this living and True God is, it's the Father and to wait for His Messiah the living and True God's Messiah. Here he says to serve a living and True God. Why does he say living well idols are not living gods are they, they're dead. They're lifeless they're man-made images our God is the Living God
He's alive he's a conscious sentient being, idols don't live. Paul here is contrasting people who had served idols to serve a living God as opposed to an idol a non living god a lifeless god in contrast to a living God. Idols are false gods Yahshua's God is the True God. Look at John 17:3 Father this is eternal life that they may know you the only True God and Messiah, whom you sent. Why is it eternal life to know the True God? because He's the Living God, He's the source of all life he lives and for that reason to know the only True God is to have eternal life. Father this is eternal life that they may know you the only True God and Messiah whom you sent, the True God. The only True God is whom we must know. The question is, is this the True God for you or is this a man-made image of God what do you think? Is this the God that Messiah was talking about the only True God or is this a man-made image of God.
let's have a look at 1 John 5:22-21 And we know that the Messiah has come and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is True and we are in Him who is True,(and) in his Messiah. This is the True God and eternal life. Little children guard yourselves from idols. Yahshua purpose is to show us and teach us so that we may know Him who is the True God and not some idol. A more literal translation is “so that we may know the True one, That's what it literally says in the Greek “this is the True God an eternal life little children guard yourselves from idols.” You see what John is doing here, he's contrasting the True God with false idols gods. The living and True God versus idols. let's again have a close look at what it says here, “so that we may know Him who is True and we are in Him who is True” (well who is that?) and His Messiah. The Father has a Messiah named Yahshua, Him who is True is the Father Yahweh. Yahshua is the Messiah of Him who is True the Father, this is the True God and eternal life.
Notice this is also very important, the Messiah of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is True. The word this “This is the True God,” it's referring to the True God who Yahshua reveals to us. That is the Father so technically the word this refers to the whole idea of the True God that Yahshua reveals to us, and who does Yahshua reveal to us?
Does he reveal that triune god (see above image)? If you look at the image can you really imagine that this thing can be a person, who said he loves you? It really look weird and pagan, a lifeless god with no feeling or personality at all. Now does Yahshua reveal his Father? this is eternal life that they may know you the only True God and Yahshua whom you sent. Who is the only True God here? In both of these verses it's obviously the Father is the only True God. Notice also in these two verses how the True God is also eternal life, to know Him means to have eternal life. Where do we find the eternal life of the True God? it is found in His Messiah and in the True God, and that's why he says at 1 John 5:20, and we are in Him who is True and in His Messiah.
There is another thing you need to be aware of here, at 1 John 5:20 it really doesn't say the Messiah of God has come but the Messiah of God comes. John is really referring to how Yahshua right now reveals the True God to us not that he did that sometime in the past, He does that right now through the spirit. The Messiah of God comes why? so that we may know Him who is True so that we may know the Father and that's why John says Father this is eternal life that they may know you the only True God and Messiah whom you sent. Because eternal life is found in the True God's and His Messiah. “I am the way” you see that's why we need to know Yahshua, I am the way in the truth and the life no one comes to the Father but through me John 14:6-7. We know the Father through Yahshua. Yahshua is the way to the Father and not in the future but right now. Yahshua explains that really clearly at John 14 where he says the Father and the Messiah will come to make their home in us. I am the way in the truth and the life no one comes to the Father but through me. If you had known me you would have known my Father also, from now on you know him and have seen him.
Yahshua explains how in the next few verses the Father abiding in me does the works, so to know Yahshua is to know his Father his God and Father. This is eternal life that they may know you, how do we know the Father? There is only one way I am the way and that's why it also says “and Messiah whom you sent” at John. No one comes to the only Tue God except through Yahshua. Let's just quickly compare these three verses: “I am the way in the truth of life no one comes to the Father but through me John 14:6” so through Yahshua we get to know the Father the only True God, “Father this is eternal life that they may know you the only True God and Messiah whom you sent John 17:3” We know that the Messiah of God comes and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is True the Father. “We are in Him who is True in His Messiah this is the True God and eternal life, little children guard yourselves from idols” 1 Joh 5:20-21. You can see here how John is contrasting the True God. Yahshua reveals to us over and against idols, and who is the True God that's being contrasted with idols, the Father and the God of Yahshua, the one True God.
Yahshua reveals the True God to us and his Father. Anything else is idolatry that's the story John is telling us here. He's contrasting the True God with idols and the True God here is the Father who Yahshua reveals to us and we know the Father by knowing Yahshua. Yahshua explains that to us in John 14 “I am the way” He contrasts knowing the Father the only True God with idols. The living and True God our Father against images of God. Yahshua is an image of God and he is not to be worshiped, you must honor him, but even Yahshua said we ought to worship God (Yahweh). Joh 4:23-24 but an hour is coming and now is when the True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. Yahshua did not said now is the time that True worshipers must worship Him (Yahshua), No He said God (Yahweh) is spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth. The Spirit of God gives life and that's why knowing Him is eternal life. God is Spirit, Holy Spirit our holy God is Holy Spirit. Notice that Yahshua is talking about the Father here. Lets look at it again True believers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. Worshiping God in the Holy Spirit that's what Yahshua is talking about at John 15:26 and Joh 16:13 when he refers to the Spirit of Truth the Holy Spirit those who are led by the Spirit of God.
These are the sons of God Romans 8:14 it's those who worship in spirit and truth they worship in the Holy Spirit of God because He is spirit the only True God, Yahshua's God and Father, anything else is idolatry God is spirit. Images of God are not spirit they're man-made images they're idols God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth, they're led by the Spirit of God who dwells within them. You turned to God from idols to serve a living and True God the Father of Yahshua and to wait for His Messiah from heaven whom He raised from the dead. Yahshua who delivers us from the coming wrath, remember what Yahshua said I ascend to my Father and your Father and my God and your God. John 20:17. We know that the Messiah comes and has given us understanding so that we may know the True One and we are in the True One, (also)in His Messiah, this the True God (One). What this verse say we are in Yahweh and in His Messiah, Yahshua reveals the True One God. It is either the True God or idols and the trinity is an idol, it's an image made by men. When the Israelites were delivered out of Egypt Moses was up on the mountain, they gathered up all their gold and Aaron took it threw it in a furnace and made a golden calf for them to worship. Moses ask him, what is this? his excuse, it's kind of funny when you read it in the Bible Exo 32:24, Aaron said, I threw this gold in furnace and out come this golden calf. Like hey I couldn't help it I just threw this gold in this furnace and out come this golden calf. The same thing all over again trinitarian academics are saying the same, since the fourth century, that's what they were doing and saying, hey we just threw our interpretations of the scripture in the furnace of our reasoning and outcome this trinity calf. We can't help it.
It is the same excuse basically if you really think about it, idolatry pure and simple. and that's why John says what he does at the end of his first letter. Yahshua has come and he comes even now to us to reveal the True God to us his God the Father the only True God anything else is idolatry. That's why John says that little children keep yourself from idols, right after he tells us that the Messiah comes to reveal the True God to us. We know who that is, it's his Father. Yahshua tells us that in the Gospel of John he explains it to us that he's the way to the Father and if we know Yahshua we know the Father and the Father and the Messiah come to abide in our hearts. The True God of Yahshua, God the Father the only True God is Yahshua's God. There is no God but his, God. God bless you.
