THE STORY OF THE WILL AND PURPOSE OF GOD.

By Owen Hughes.
In the beginning God….” There has always been God; God the Trinity; God with three persons; that of a father, that of a son, and that of a doer / teacher – the Holy Spirit.
Now Father God always had a plan and a purpose, and that purpose was to have many sons like unto His glorious and much loved Son of God. The plan involved the creation of a physical universe which contained planet earth. On planet earth He created a human being – Adam – in His image and in His likeness.
But, before time and creation, before the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden, before there was a devil and sin and human need, before there was the Omnipotent Holy God of Israel, God chose all human beings to be “in” Christ: “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,…” (Eph.1:4). This would make them all the Father’s own birthed sons whose final destiny is to live in the Father’s house (Jn.14:2) above all heavens (Eph.4:10; Heb.7:26).
By definition, “in” means union, oneness, a joining. Therefore for us to be in Christ, Christ must also be in us: “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” (Jn.14:20) – this is Jesus’ explanation of “in,” meaning oneness!
God who is one, and God who is love, lived in a state of perfect oneness enjoying the greatest love relationship that has ever existed; the love relationship between God the father personality and God the son personality; …..” for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” (Jn.17:24), ….. “The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.” (Jn.3:35)…… “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased;” (Mat.7:5)….. “for I always do those things that please him.” (Jn.8:29).
God selected the nation Israel from all the nations on earth to be His chosen race and called Israel His wife (Hos.2:19&20; Is.54:5&6).
From His wife Israel, God chose a virgin named Mary to birth His Son, Jesus of Nazareth,
The next step in His plan was to birth many sons sufficient to fill His house: “In My Father’s house are many mansions:….. I go to prepare a place for you.” (Jn.14:2).
The prime reason that God wanted many sons, like unto His first birthed Son, is to get the reciprocal love that His heart desires.
You see: God is love, and love seeks an object, love seeks an outlet, love seeks fulfilment and love seeks response,……God needs us! He needs the love response of Christ and us!
The only love response acceptable to God the Father is the love response of His Son. This is the love of God pointing back to God, this pleases Father. And herein lies the secret held back from before the world was created; “….. the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but is now made manifest to his saints:….. which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” (Col.1:26&27).
It was God’s master plan to have His Son enter into all believers to become the believer’s Spirit, Nature and only Life (Gal.2:20; Phil.1:21), and then for that Son to respond to God’s love. The love response would be coupled to the many varied and flavoured personalities of believers, no two alike – producing a sweet smelling savour to the Father.
From the beginning God looked down through the ages and saw that He could never have a person that loved Him except Christ become their life, for we cannot reciprocate the love of God.
The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ were paramount to God’s plan. For in God’s economy, life comes only out of death: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” (Jn.12:24).
In the death of His Son, as a single Seed, many Seeds were produced.
The many Seeds are the Incorruptible Seed; God the Son – the Word: “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God which liveth and abideth forever.” (1Pet.1:23).
And so God placed the incorruptible Seed, Christ, into every human being who believed in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord.
And so by the placing of the Incorruptible Seed into every believer, every believer became the birthed son of God the Father.
God could have created myriads of humans to love Him, but love doesn’t work that way. Love by nature is a choice. God therefore requires every human being born to make the one major choice all humans must make in their lifetime; do you choose God to be your Father by you believing that Jesus Christ took your place on the cross of Calvary and died for your sins?.... Or do you choose to do nothing, remain a slave to sin, and end up in hell for all eternity?...... Your choice!
(Rom.3:23; For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;…….. Rom.6:23; For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.)…… do you acknowledge that you are a lost sinner who has fallen short of God’s righteous requirements (for all have sinned)?...... Do you understand that your punishment for being a sinner is death?...... Now, rather than death, will you receive God’s gift of eternal life by believing that Jesus died for your sins, that He died on the cross in your place? That He took your punishment upon Himself? Thank Him and receive Him as your Saviour and Lord. And in so doing you will become Father God’s own birthed son.
……Or do you choose to do nothing, and so choose ‘self’ and the way of the world by carrying on a life independent from God, living life your way, doing your own thing, and thereby rejecting God’s gift of eternal life and the offer to be a son in His family?...... And of course, you’ll end up in hell!...“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Rev.20:15).
God could now have removed the believer from planet earth to bring him up to His house above all heavens. But no! ….. God’s plan is only partially complete in the birthing of His sons. In His plan God also purposed to adopt His birthed sons: “In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will.” (Eph.1:5)(see also Rom.8:23; Gal.4:1-7).
In Biblical times adoption was the process whereby a young Hebrew boy was initially kept under tutors and governors in training for adulthood. This training continued until a time appointed by his father (Gal.4:2). Eventually the time came when the father would recognise the boy as an adult son responsible for making his own decisions in life.
In this grace dispensation we have the equivalent of the Biblical adoption process where Father God uses His C & S gang (the Circumstances & Situations of life) to mature His birthed sons. Here planet earth becomes a schoolhouse which God uses to discipline, teach and mature His sons to a level of training whereby they qualify as mature, fully-fledged sons responsible for making their own decisions in life.
Our spirits are saved when we are re-birthed and the Spirit of Christ Jesus joins Himself to our spirit: “But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” (1Cor.6:17). We are therefore perfect in Spirit.
Salvation of our soul / mind is an ongoing process, firstly by the crucifying of the old man, or the independent self (IDPS)(Rom.6:3,6), and then by the breaking of the self-ability of the soul (Heb.12:5-10), and lastly by the renewing of the mind (Rom.12:2)..
Eventually, at the rapture, when Christ descends from heaven and all the saved are caught up together to meet the Lord in the air (1Thess.4:15-17), it is then that our bodies will be transformed to be fashioned like unto His glorious body (Phil.3:21).
Wherefore, comfort one another with these words!
In summary: the will and purpose of God is summed up in John the Baptist’s statement: "He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30). It is to increase Christ and decrease everything else so that
Christ may be all in all.
We must see that everything God has done, is doing, and will do, is for the purpose of increasing Jesus and decreasing everything that is not of Him.
This is a spiritual law, and is working in the world right now.
The will and purpose of God the Father, in this grace dispensation, is to have all His birthed sons living by the life of Another!
