Compiled March 2009 by Owen Hughes Contributions from Denise Hayes, Robbie Litzman & Ruth Nortje: It was in the late
1980s that Avis Haylock obtained the book Jesus Lost in the Church,
written by Warren Litzman. Avis lent the book to Ruth and to others. From
the book Ruth got the contact number of the Christ Life Fellowship,
Dallas, Texas, and got in touch with the Litzmans. In so doing, Ruth
realised she had previously met Warren at a Bible College in the USA where
she had been a secretary in her earlier years. In response, Warren sent
tapes and books at his own expense to Ruth, and since we were just a
handful of folk we passed them from one to another. Warren and Robbie
continued to send more tapes, books and videos. And so Ruths mailing list
grew as the message spread. Ruth frequently asked the Litzmans to consider a trip to Africa, but Warren said he had no leading to do so. Then in 1993 he contacted Ruth to say they were thinking of coming the following year. They came out in June 1994 and commenced with a meeting in Cape Town, then at Ruths home in Somerset West, followed by a 3 day meeting at Denise and Trevor Hayes home in Port Elizabeth. Then on to Virginia (Willie & Marie Pansegrouw), and then to a hotel at the Jan Smuts airport (now called Oliver Tambo airport). And finally to John & Cicely Lentons home in Harare, Zimbabwe. In 1995 Warren & Robbie returned to Africa with Don Byrd , Frank and Gloria Stigall, Ruth Duhn and Mary Kady. This was the first Camp Meeting in Africa! It took place over an Easter weekend at the Resthaven resort, Harare, Zimbabwe. October 1995 Warren
& Robbie returned and did a 3 day Camp meeting at the Montague resort,
Cape Town, and a 1 day Camp meeting at Bellville. In 1996 they returned at
Easter time for a meeting at Harare. In October they came to the Carmel
facility in George. In 1997 Warren & Robbie received a call from the Lentons to say they had forgotten to book the Resthaven resort, Harare, for the Easter camp meeting. With the Harare meeting cancelled we asked Warren and Robbie if they would still come to South Africa but divert their meeting from Harare to Port Elizabeth, since his airfare tickets had already been booked. Warren wondered if anyone would attend a meeting so close to the October Camp meeting. He asked me how many folk I thought would attend again within 6 months, I said I could guarantee ten folk!. ..He said quietly, I will come back for 10!Hence the 1997 Camp meeting was at Willows resort in Port Elizabeth. Roger Bodary accompanied Warren & Robbie for that meeting. Who will forget one of
the worst storms PE had experienced for years? High winds and rain hit us
at night and damaged the roof at the Willows. DATES OF CLF MEETINGS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA, VENUES & SUBJECTS:
EXTRACT FROM GCL No. 91; DEFINING THE CHRIST LIFE by Warren Litzman. One little woman in South Africa, in a wheelchair, read in one of our magazines about the Christ-Life book, Jesus Lost in the Church. She applied for a copy, read it, and it turned her on. She passed it to a friend, it also turned her on, so, she in turn passed it on to another. One of these ladies was involved with a Bible study group and she wrote to me asking if I ever came to South Africa, would I please come to their Bible study group. So, some 6 years ago Robbie and I went to South Africa and met with 4 or 5 little groups that met in homes and were struck by the intense desire to know more of the Christ-Life. When Robbie and I went back again, we met with a bigger crowd and so it grew there. There are probably as many Christ-Life followers in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Botswana as there are anywhere else in the world. God working through one little woman has spread this message to Africa. END EXTRACT. Since April 2010 Mr. Litzman has made special DVD's for the Weekend in the Word.
