DID JESUS CLAIM TO BE GOD?......YES HE DID!.......By “y-Jesus” Discussion between Oven Huges and Johann Grobler With reply by JG in red. A Summary. By Owen Hughes, Nov.2017. At the core of Christianity is the belief that God came to earth in the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ. [Not according to the Bible: The core is that God is reconciling man to Himself through Jesus Christ so that He can have children who are blameless and can live with Him in Paradise forever ]. Did Jesus claim to be God?.....[Nowhere did Jesus claim to be God. He said that He does nothing without God (the Father) and that the Father is greater than Him. ] Yes He did; He did so by calling himself, “I AM.”[That does not mean , “I am God”. It is a common Greek way of identifying oneself. The Greek ego eimi was also used by the blind man who was healed by Jesus, in John 9:9]. He did so by calling Himself the Son of God. [That doesn’t mean He is God. We are also sons of God (Gal. 3:26). That doesn’t make us “God”. The difference is that Jesus is the firstborn son.] He did so by forgiving sin. [When a preacher/minister declares to a repentant sinner that his sins are forgiven, that does not make the preacher/minister God. Jesus made no declaration without the input of God the Father.] He did so by accepting worship. [There were instances where people “worshipped” Jesus, like the magi and the blind man who was healed, after Jesus told him he was the Son of man. The Greek word proskuneo, could also mean kneeling down to pay homage to an authority figure – See BDAG lexicon. There is no indication that either the magi or the man who was healed from blindness, regarded Jesus as being God .] And He did so in Revelation by saying, “I will be their God.” [The only verse in Revelation I could find that seems to fit is Rev 21:3. It actually reads, “God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” This refers The only verse to God the Father who will dwell in the New Jerusalem after the millennium. See also 1 Cor. 15:24]. ? Jesus used the “I AM” title (ego eimi); God’s name for Himself: Before Abraham was, “I am” (Jn 8:58)….. [He was the one who was to be the key person in God’s plan, long before Abraham – the lamb slain before the foundation of the world and the seed of the woman that would crush the head of the serpent.] “I am” the only way to the Father (John 14:6)….“I am” the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).Using the words “I am” didn’t make him God. He was the resurrection and the life because God granted him that power and authority – John 5:26-27. ? Isaiah referred to the Messiah (Jesus) as “Mighty God,” “Everlasting Father,” Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). [Mighty God should be translated “mighty hero” – see Moffatt Translation.] ? The son of a man is a man. The son of an ape is an ape. The ‘Son of God’ is God,….. a divine title. [We are also sons of God, and so are the angels. That doesn’t make us or the angels God.] ? Php 2:6 (DRB) Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [Jesus was in the form (Greek: morphe) of God, i.e. he was in the image of God. Notice it doesn’t say he was God. Jesus, the second Adam, did not grasp at equality with God as Adam did. Adam fell for Satan’s deceptive words, “You shall be as God.”Jesus didn’t. He was odedient to the point of death on the cross. Although he had as Messiah every right to a divine office, he remained humble as a servant. As a result God exalted him to the right hand of his throne and gave him all authority in heaven and on earth. There is nothing in Scipture to say that Christ regained a position that he had temporarily given up.] ? Jesus forgave sins: “The scribes who heard him said blasphemy! Who but God can forgive sins!” (Mk 2:7). [Jesus could (only) forgive sin on the instruction and authority of the Father. He did nothing without the sanction of his Father. It is dangerous to rely on the theology of the Pharisees!] Only God could pay the full penalty demanded by sin: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name (the name of Jesus, v.10) under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Act 4:12). Jesus, the God-Man, [this term “God-Man”, is nowhere to be found in the Bible] had to be God to purchase our salvation, and had to be man to die.” [Where in Scripture does it say so? It had to be the second Adam.] ? “The Father and I are one.” (Jn.10:30)…Why did the Jews respond by picking up stones to kill him? “Not for any good work; but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, have made yourself God” (John 10:33). [Jesus never claimed to be God (compare Phil. 2:6), but the Jews falsely accused him of that, apparently because he called God his father – see John 5:18] ? Only God is to be worshiped (Ex.20:3).. Jesus accepted worship from Thomas (John 20:28), the angels (Hebrews 1:6), some wise men (Matthew 2:11), a leper (Matthew 8:2), a ruler (Matthew 9:18), a blind man (John 9:38), an anonymous woman (Matthew 15:25), Mary Magdalene (Matthew 28:9), and the disciples (Matthew 28:17). Scripture is emphatic that only God can be worshiped as God (Exodus 34:14). [They never worshiped Jesus as God. They paid homage to him by bowing down, as was the custom for doing toward a king or someone of high authority - see Gen 27:29 (as is still being done today to the Queen of England). The Greek allows for this meaning – see Mat. 18:26.] ? Rev 1:7,8 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. (8) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. If you consider the context and go back to verses 4 and 5, it is clear that verse 8 refers to God the Father who has the seven spirits before His throne.] The pierced One – Jesus – says He is the Alpha and Omega, the Almighty, i.e. He says; He is God! ? Col.1:16-17; Christ, as God; created everything,…is the reason for creation….existed before everything.. ……holds creation together. [Jesus himself never claimed that he created everything we see around us. See for example Mat 19:4 where he talks about the creation of Adam and Eve. One must read the context of Col 1. Look at Col. 1:15. The Son of God is the image of the invisible God. It doesn’t say he is God. He is the firstborn , not of the creation in Genesis, but of the “new creation.” Jesus is the head of the new created order. He is also the source of this new order, by being resurrected and receiving immortality. See Rev 3:14. All power in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus, by God. This he received when he ascended after his resurrection. So all “principalities and powers” have been set or created by Christ since he was given those powers by God. It’s not talking here about oceans and mountains and birds and trees. Christ has the pre-eminence, not because he is God, but because he is the firstborn of the new created order –see Col. 1:15-18.] ? Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Only God fits such a description. [Does that make him God? According to most trinitarians Jesus did change from God to God-Man when he was born from Mary] ? Isa 45:22,23 Look unto me,… for I am God, and there is none else….. unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear…… “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, And that every tongue should confess” (Php 2:10,11). In equating the verses we see Jesus confesses to being God! [Look again at Isa 45 –especially verse 21. It says there is no other God “ beside me.” It doesn’t say “no other God beside us …or the three of us.” There can be only one God. Every knee shall bow before Him. He gave that same authority to Christ. It is God that gave him that authority –see Phil. 2:9. Just because people may bow before Jesus doesn’t mean he is worshipped as God.] CONCLUSION. If Jesus is Yahweh, [there is no indication in Scripture that Jesus is Yahweh. He is Yeshua, and you may add Christos, which means Messiah] then the Christian message is that God Himself came to earth, allowed men to spit on Him, mock him, and nail Him to a cross as the supreme sacrifice for our sin. God’s perfect justice could be satisfied only by God Himself as the payment for our sin and unrighteousness. [Scripture doesn’t teach that] WE ARE WARNED: 2Pe 2:1,2 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (2) And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. Denying the Lord what?......Obviously denying Him His divinity as the Son of God. [We do not deny he is the Son of God. We do not deny he is the Messiah, the one who is our elder brother, the captain of our salvation, set above all authorities in heaven and earth, soon to rule on earth as King of kings. There is no one like him. He deserves honour and praise. But the Father is greater than him and will always be. Why? Because the Father is the only true God. Jesus said so himself – John 17:3. Does that make me a false teacher?] These heresy preachers, denying the Lord Christ, have joined the following heresy promoters: “The Jehovah’s Witnesses, for example, believe Jesus was created by the Father billions of years ago as the Archangel Michael and is hence a “lesser god” than the Father. The Mormons say Jesus was born as the first and greatest spirit child of the Heavenly Father and heavenly mother, and was the spirit-brother of Lucifer. New Agers claim Jesus was an enlightened master. Unitarian Universalists say Jesus was just a good moral teacher.” --- By; answersingenesis.org Add in: the Christadelphians, Christian Scientists, Oneness Pentecostals, Members Church of God International, Unitarian Universalist Christians, The Way International, The Church of God International and the United Church of God…….These cults all deny Jesus is God! [What I notice is not one attempt has been made in this article to explain the many verses that clearly state that there is only one God and that He is Yahweh, God the Father. Verses such as John 5:44, John 14:28, John 17:3, John 20:17, Deut. 6:4 plus Mark 12:28-3, 1 Tim. 2:5, 1 Cor. 3:23, 1 Cor. 8:6,1 Cor. 11:3, Eph. 1:3, Eph. 4:4-1Cor. 15:27-28.]

It is so sad that today's christians dont believe the word of Yahweh any more, one can quote any verse of the Bible and they would reject it. I myself was guilty of it and by just accepting stuff some man or preacher is preaching to you. The trinity doctrine always worries me I always thought how can religion say my Farther is a substance who split up in three parts or personalities. I could never accept it, normally when you get someone who think he got more than one personalty you would try to avoid such an person. In fact they need to place in a safe house for help. I start to investigate where this doctrine comes from, well you will not find it in the Bible. Since the trinitarian worship of Jesus as God is not based on Scripture, it comes as no surprise that the Nicene Creed and a few subsequent early “Christian” creeds do not cite a single verse of Scripture to support their dogmatic assertions. In short these are man-made creeds that are based on human authority and not on the authority of the Scriptures, the Word of God. No attempt is even made to conceal this fact. The church leaders, called Fathers and bishops, elevated themselves to being God’s appointed authority invested with the supreme power to make binding decisions on doctrine and to cast an anathema (a curse) on those with different views. Paul is waring about it 2Co 10:5 Casting down ***imaginations***, and every ***high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God,*** and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; We should know who is our Father is 2Th 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that ***know not God,*** and that obey not the ***gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:***.Jesus many times said that His and our God is one God. Paul want us to come to this knowledge that there is but one God Tim 2:4-5 4, Who will have all men to be saved, and to*** come unto the knowledge of the truth. *** 5, For there is ***one God***, and ***one mediator between God and men***, the ***man Christ Jesus;****. Paul is also saing that there is but one spirit to the Farther Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access by ***one Spirit unto the Father.*** Eph 4:4 There is one body, and ***one Spirit**, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; . There are not 2 x spirits, Jesus operate through the Holy Spirit Act 1:2, Until the day in which he(Jesus) was taken up, after that he(Jesus) ***through the Holy Spirit** had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: Jesus indwells us by the Holy Spirit - Dont you know that your body(whole body) is the temple of the Holy Spirit. see 1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, ***which ye have of God(Yahweh) , and ye are not your own? The Holy Spirit is Father Yahweh it comes from Him, He is the only one who is holy and spirit.Since Jesus accention He has become a life giving spirit, He was not that before He was MADE one - 1Co 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was ***made a quickening spirit.*** The concept of a god who dies and rises again was familiar to the pagan world in which the Gentile church took root. Little wonder that some scholars have portrayed Christianity as preaching a pagan Christ (e.g. Tom Harpur’s The Pagan Christ). Their criticism is not without basis because the God of the Bible is indisputably immortal. Pagan gods, by contrast, are said to die and rise again because they personify those aspects of nature that die in winter and rise in spring. There were many fertility gods in the ancient pagan cultures, a well-known example of which is Baal who was worshipped in the Canaanite nations and later by many in Israel. It can be said that the Gentile church has not raised Jesus to equality with the immortal God of the Bible, but to the level of the mortal pagan gods! In the Bible there is one and only God, and there is no other besides Him. He has revealed His name as Yahweh. In 1 Corinthians 8, Paul makes a strong stand for monotheism in statements such as “there is no God but one” and “there is one God, the Father” which are clear echoes of Old Testament monotheism. Paul’s exposition is notable for the interweaving of strands of thought on monotheism and those on idolatry, switching back and forth between the two themes (one God but then switch to 3 x gods) effortlessly. There are so much more about this problem Have you ever received a scripture from your Father which you felt was directly for you , well I have received one from Him and I regard it as very precious. Isa 43:10, Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD(Yahweh), and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may ***know and believe me,*** and ***understand*** that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. There is now mystery to understand who my Father is, it makes me so happy now and I can rejoice in studing and reading all Bible scriptures and to understand who He really is.Soon the rapture might take place and when I see Him I will know who he is and not some substance or essence splitting up in 3 x gods. He is one person just like you and I, and we and Jesus were created after His image. Jesus said to the woman of Samaria at the well He and His followers worship God -19, The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that ***thou art a prophet.*** 20, Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21, Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, ***worship the Father. **** (Jesus not be worship) 22, Ye worship ye know not what: *****WE*** know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. (Here Jesus admits who He is worshipping) 23, But the hour cometh, and now is, when the ***true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth***: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. (again who must be worship - THE FARTHER not Him) 24, ****God is a Spirit***: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Like I said we are not suppose to worship an image of Father Yahweh. There is so much more to say but this is enough for now and many will not believed the scriptures I have quoted because it does not fit there stand point, but I thank my Farther that I am free to quote them, they are not against His WORD. The goal and purpose of Jesus was to reconcile the world to Father Yahweh.

Hi since I have learned that Christ lives in me My whole live has changed. The churches I was in before never taught me about this "life in Christ" in me. They would say that it is the Holy Spirit, but now I see clearly, it is the Spirit of Christ in me. What a blessing to know this, now I understood why my Father in heaven who birth me (reborn) said "I swear there will be some who will enter into My rest"
:D
