The Born Again Meaning, How To Know You Are Born Again?

This is how our picture of the three concentric circles now looks like:

God, the Father, according to His own decision, plants His Seed in the core of a person’s being; his spirit. That person’s spirit, which was dead, is now filled with new life, God’s life.

May I plead with you to reflect on this before you continue reading? Do you realize what a miracle the spiritual birthing is? Being born again is the most important moment in your entire earthly life – more important than your wedding, more important than when your first child was born, more important than when you received your highest professional qualification.

What is the effect of your birthing?

A totally new life has been regenerated . Though every true Christian is born again, most do not realize what the birthing is all about and what its implications are: it is the birthing of something new. It is not that the old human being has been changed, upgraded or renovated. It is the supernatural birthing of a new race of people, a member of the Christ – human race. A being that is not merely a part of His creation, but has been birthed by God. Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Are you being burdened with guilt feelings? Have you been abused in the past? Do you bear wounds from your childhood?

If you have been born again, that is all in the past! It has been superseded by something much more momentous! The birthing of the new person is a watershed event. You become a child of God the Father because He birthed you, which also results in your union with His first begotten Son. Think about it … God the Father is your new Dad!

Furthermore, Christ now lives in you and that new “Christ- person” cannot sin anymore! Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. (1 John 3:9)

Think about it: you have Christ in you! You have Him in fullness in you – not just part of Him – it is a complete Seed that contains the life and nature of God (Colossians 2:9-10). As Paul said: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in Me (Galatians 2:20)

The born again believer cannot sin! His sin-nature has been exchanged for the Christ nature. But we still find sin among believers! (See 1 John 1:8). Is there a discrepancy in Scripture?

Here is the answer: it is not the believer who sins. It is not his true essence that sins. It is rather the sin that resides in him (Romans 7:17-20). In his spirit there is no sin, because Christ, who did not sin, is joined to his spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17).

Where then does the sin reside? In the other two parts of his tripartite being: the soul and the body. Look again at the sketch:

It is within his soul where the battle of the believer takes place. It is there where the residue of wrong thinking patterns, habits and “pollution” of this world lies. It is there where the Holy Spirit operates and it is there where the renewal of the mind is to take place (Romans 12:2).

God is spirit, He is love and He is life. The spiritual birthing is an act of the love of God the Father whereby He imparts to the believer the highest life form – God’s own abundant life (John 10:10). That abundant life is nothing other than the Holy Spirit which comes from the Father and which enable Christ to be your life (Colossians 3:3-4). Christ will not force Himself upon you, He waits for you to freely give Him the control over all your being. You can choose to let Him rule over your soul and body, that He can be expressed through your mind and body, and this according to your unique personality. For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. …though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. (2 Corinthians 4:11, 16).

That spontaneous expression of Christ is like water bubbling out of a fountain. See John 7:39: He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. See the sketch: next page
